Obituary of Mary Chapin
Mary Chapin passed away on October 12, 2022 in Dwight, Illinois. Mary was born on February 20, 1934 to Andy and Viola Setser and lived in Preble County from her birth until 2014 when she moved to Coal City, Illinois. She was married to Bill Chapin on June 24, 1950 and worked with him on his farming operation until his passing on October 3, 2004. Mary loved the farm life and would certainly rather be found working ground than cleaning house. In addition, she was a long-time employee in the Fair Haven, Dixon and Eaton school cafeterias and upon retirement from the school system she managed banquet service at the Hueston Woods State Park Lodge. Mary adored her miniature schnauzers: Cappy, Missy and Tinker. Mary is survived by her sister Betty Stewart of Eaton, Ohio; and her brother Gordon Setser of Kingwood, Texas; two sons, Bill (Coal City, Illinois) and Scott (Camden, Ohio); their wives, Carole (Phillips) and Susan (Roach); seven Grandchildren (Annie, Brad, Josh, Niki, Erin, Darin and Derek); 16 Great-grandchildren (another due in February); 3 Great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill, Brother: Bill Setser, 2 sisters-in-law: (Ruth Setser and Betty Briggs); 2 brothers-in-law: (Eldon Stewart and Bernard Briggs), Great-grandson: Eli Stewart, Grandson-in-law: Rick Martin, and nephews: Ron Stewart and Larry Setser. Mary had many long-time friends in Ohio and had made many friends in Illinois. She was gentle and sweet, but also had quite the stubborn and fiery streak that occasionally could not be contained. Mary will be missed by many new friends and staff at Heritage Health Nursing Home where she spent the last 2 years. At Mary's request, services will be private. Showalter Blackwell Long, Baker Chapel, College Corner, Ohio has been entrusted with arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to: Heritage Health, Dwight, 300 East Mazon St., Dwight, IL 60420. Please designate the donation to the Activities Department.
