Obituary of George Davis Jr.
George Davis Jr., 77, of Liberty died Friday, September 20, 2024. George was born in a log house in Everton on September 28, 1946, to George Davis Sr. and Daisy E. Callahan Davis. He attended Union County Schools. On May 2, 1966, George was inducted into the U.S. Army at Cincinnati. He served in the 3rd Battalion 60th Infantry 9th Infantry Division in Vietnam. His 9th Infantry Division was the first to go into the Mekong Delta and set up the Dong Tam Base Camp. While serving his country, George earned the National Defense Medal and the expert marksmanship ribbon for the M14 and the M16. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army on February 5, 1968, in Oakland, California. George married the love of his life, the beautiful Linda Hubbard on April 5, 1968, in Liberty. They enjoyed 48 years together before Linda died on January 3, 2016. George was a truck driver most of his life working for Consolidated Freight for the last 25 years, retiring from Teamsters Local 100 in Cincinnati. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1472 and a member of the American Legion Post 122 both of Liberty. George loved to fish anywhere, but especially in Florida on the Gulf of Mexico. George is survived by two sons: George Davis III of Connersville and Paul Davis of Liberty; two grandchildren: Paige Davis of Connersville and Montana Davis of Liberty; step-grandchildren: Austin Flanagan and Samantha Flanagan; two sisters: Betty May of Alquina and Phyllis Van Meter (Alan) of Blooming Grove; friend and fishing Companion: Pamela Anderson of Connersville; several nieces nephews and special friends including: Jim Hensley and Boydean Bothast. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers: Creed, Wayne, and Jimmy Davis; two sisters: Barbara Anderson and Ruth Ann Dake. Memorial contributions may be made to the Union County Cancer Fund. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Showalter Blackwell Long, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty, with Dylan Presson officiating. Interment will follow at Sims Cemetery with Military Graveside Honors. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
