Martha Merle Stewart

Martha M. Stewart, 96, of Kokomo, Indiana passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023. She was born Sept. 6, 1926 in Kokomo to Harry J. and Gertrude Smith. She attended Kokomo High School and was a lifelong member of the Salvation Army. She married John A. Stewart on July 26, 1947. They had two children: Julie Herron (Murry) of Clearwater, FL and Jeff Stewart of Kokomo. She loved to cook, sew, sing, read her Bible, and plant a garden nearly every summer. She is preceded in death by her parents; three sisters Orpha Sparling Powell, Josie Poff, and Betty Mills Arnett Shook; and her husband John Stewart. She is survived by her two children and six grandchildren; Gina Hallam (Steve) of Logansport, Lisa Cavalleri of Oldsmar, FL, Angela Cunningham (Vince) and Christian Herron of Elizabethtown, KY, Danielle Akers (Nick) of Ft. Wayne and Summer Stewart of Tipton; two siblings: Lt. Col. Harry J. Smith of Rockford, IL and Emma Jackson of Terre Haute; and six great grandchildren. A celebration of life for Martha will be held Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Salvation Army, 1105 S Waugh St, Kokomo, Indiana 46902.
