William F. Bastnagel

William Bastnagel passed away peacefully November 17th, 2022. He was born on September 24, 1926 in Mount Carmel, IL to Frank and Gertrude (Goldie) Bastnagel. He was drafted into the Army after completing a year at University of Illinois. After serving in the military he enrolled at St. Thomas College in St. Paul, MN. He then studied medicine at St. Louis University Medical School. He completed an Internal Medicine Residency at Indiana University Medical Center. He practiced medicine on the Northside of Indianapolis for 35 years at Methodist, Winona, and St. Vincent Hospitals. He married LaVonne (Mannfeld) in 1955. He took great pleasure in caring for his patients, and traveling with his family across the United States and Canada in the family travel trailer on vacations and weekends. He also enjoyed many cruises and pilgrimages in Europe. He was a member of numerous professional societies and associations. He is preceded in death by his sisters Mary (Diebler), Margaret (Sr. Gertrude), and Helen (Miller). He is survived by his wife LaVonne, his four sons, James (wife Christi), John, Tom (wife Judy) and Phil (wife Vickie), 19 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of Marquette Health Center for their dedicated and loving care. Funeral services will be held on November 25th, 2022, at St. Luke Catholic Church, 7575 Holliday Drive East, Indianapolis. Visitation at 10:30; Rite of Christian Burial at 11:30.
