Obituary of Leland E. Tanner
Leland Tanner, 90, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on January 4. The calling will be held at noon on Friday January 12, with service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Leppert Mortuary in Nora (740 E. 86th St.). The burial will be a private ceremony. Lee was born in Lowell, IN on February 11, 1933 to Louise and Earle Tanner. He attended Lowell High School and continued to Indiana University graduating in 1955 with a B.S. in Finance. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He met his wife, Marilyn, at IU and they married in 1955. Lee went on to join American Fletcher National Bank (now Chase Bank) in the Trust department, advancing to Senior Vice-President, then joined Indiana National Bank as Senior Vice President in charge of Fixed Income investments in the Trust and Investment Division. Lee was highly respected in the investment community and started his own company, Prime Capital Management, overseeing the State of Indiana Public Employees Retirement Fund (PERF) money. After 25 years, he sold his company in 1999 and retired. In 2000, he was honored with a citation from PERF and a Sagamore of the Wabash from Governor Frank O'Bannon. Lee was a loving father, grandfather, friend, neighbor, and will be dearly missed. He was a highly-skilled chef, bird-lover, and enjoyed gardening, boating and skiing. He and Marilyn had quite the interest in food and wine, belonging to gourmet dinner clubs. Lee was a member of the Indianapolis Wine Society, Liquid Assets Tasting Society, Les Amis du Vin, serving as treasurer and later president, and Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, serving as treasurer for 12 years. He was also an active member in the community. He served the city of Indianapolis for eight years on the Metropolitan Board of Zoning under Mayor William Hudnut, and supported the IU Alumni Association as chairman of the investment committee, later serving on the finance committee. He was a member of many clubs, including Scientech and Contemporary Club of Indianapolis. Lee was preceded in death by his mother and father, Louise and Earle, and is survived by his wife Marilyn, his sons Brent and Blake, and his grandchildren, Josephine (Andrew Wood), Jacqueline, and Logan.
