Obituary of Kathryn Beth Bloem Tuttle
Kathryn, known best as Kathy, was born in Sioux City, Iowa to Elizabeth Towns Bloem and Robert William Bloem. The second of four siblings, she grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana. Always an outstanding student, while in high school Kathy won an American Field Service Scholarship to complete part of her high school experience in Germany. Although she had never taken classes in German, Kathy became fluent in the language and later returned to Germany to complete part of her college education. She graduated from Indiana University with a major in math and was hired by IBM at a time when few women were accepted into her field. As a Systems Analyst, Kathy traveled to numerous countries for IBM; helping to set up new systems and troubleshoot complications. During her career, Kathy also achieved several other degrees in areas including math, computer science and technology, and graphic arts. Kathy and her husband John both retired from IBM and relocated to Palm Coast, Florida in the mid 1990’s. In Florida Kathy was able to realize a lifelong dream of becoming an artist. She was an honored member of both the Indiana and Florida Watercolor Societies, and worked in several media, including watercolor, acrylics, collage, and filtered photography. Kathy was also an enthusiastic tennis player during her early years in Florida, and then became and accomplished gardener. In passing, Kathy leaves behind her husband, John H. Tuttle, stepdaughter Monique Tuttle Johnson. She also leaves 3 siblings: Kenneth B. Bloem, Dale M. Bloem, and Carolyn M. Bloem Shay; as well as a brother-in-law Glenn. T. Shay, and niece and Goddaughter, Makaila M. Shay. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Donor Network in Kathy's honor. www.donornetwork.org
