Judith A. Guernsey (Judy), Age 83 of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2024. She was born on April 7, 1941 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Ernest & Phyllis Jones.
Judy graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1959. She met her future husband Richard H. Guernsey in the Unitarian Universalists church youth group while in High School, and married in 1962. In addition to raising 5 children Judy attended Indiana University/Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI) receiving a master’s in social work (MSW) and later became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Judy worked as a social worker for Tri-County Mental Health, and later started her own private practice as a therapist. She continued to mentor therapists from many disciplines until her death.
Judy loved spending time with her entire family. She enjoyed traveling to the family’s northern Michigan cottage and bringing the entire family together for the Guernsey Family Getaway every few years. She also loved laughing, cooking, reading, friends and her exercise classes.
She is survived by her husband Richard H. Guernsey; 5 Children: David (Jean) Guernsey, Elizabeth (John) Batcha, Stephen (Melissa) Guernsey, Charles (Mary) Guernsey and Thomas (Jennie) Byrne; 11 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grand Child and her brother Phil (Myra) Jones.
A memorial service will be held at Crown Hill Funeral Home, Gothic Chapel, November 22, 2024. Visitation from 12pm to 2pm, service and celebration following. All are welcome.
