Obituary of Joyce Chi Yuin Yang
Joyce Chi-Yuin Yang, 92, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2022 in Carmel, IN. Joyce was born on February 28, 1930 in Weihaiwei, Shangdong, along the eastern coast of China. She moved to Taiwan during the Chinese Revolution of 1949. Later, she attended Tamkang University in Taipei. On March 29, 1957, Joyce wed the love of her life, Norman Yo-Ping Yang MD. They were married for 50 years, until his passing in 2007. Together, they had four children. The family immigrated to the United States during the 1970’s. Joyce is predeceased by her husband and a son who passed away in infancy. Survivors include son Karl Yang MD (Wei-Chen) of Carmel, IN, daughter Elizabeth Yang MD (Lawrence) of Houston, TX, and son Edward Yang MD (Celia) of Granger, IN; six grandchildren: Thomas, Andrew, Christine, Valerie, Phillip, and Jonathan; brother Juin Yu, PhD (Meruia) of Raleigh, NC and sister Ai-Fang Yu in China. Joyce was a phenomenal cook, especially known for her dumplings. She excelled at putting on elaborate dinner banquets, especially during her years living in Taiwan. In the U.S., she owned and operated several businesses in the Houston area, including an apartment complex, motel, and a doughnut shop. Her ability to juggle countless personal and professional responsibilities was a direct reflection of her work ethic and character. Her hobbies included watercolor brush painting, mahjong, and playing guqin, a traditional Chinese musical instrument. Most importantly, Joyce’s proudest accomplishment was her love for her family. She was the rock that supported Norman, as he led a busy career as a practicing physician and medical school professor. Joyce was always attentive to her children’s development and education. She took enormous pride that they all grew up to become successful professionals. Joyce absolutely loved doting on her grandchildren, and they will cherish the many meaningful moments shared together. Mass service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Indianapolis, with visitation at 9:30 AM.
