James W. Garnett
September 19, 1928 – February 3, 2019

James was born September 19, 1928 to the late Verna Garnett in Morganfield, Kentucky. There, he attended public schools and graduated from high school.
James moved to Indianapolis in 1947, working at Eagle Creek Nursery until 1951. He began working at Indianapolis Public Schools and retired as a Landscaper Foreman retired in 1991 after 40 years and 3 days of faithful service, always remembering the 3 days!
In 1950, he married the lovely June Mathews and from this union 2 children were born, Darryl and Sharon.
In 1951, he became a member of St. John's Missionary Baptist Church until his death, 68 years. During this time, he served on the Usher and Trustee Ministry, worked with the Love Center, The Juvenile Rehabilitation Group, photographed and videotaped many church events. He also worked as a part-time barber, went to upholstery school for a time, and had the ability to work the daily Cryptoquip in the daily paper.
James memory will always be in the minds and hearts of his wife of 68 years, June Garnett, daughter, Sharon (John) Jackson, granddaughter, Maya Garnett, great-grandson, Israel James Garnett and a host of family, church family and friends.
