IN THE CARE OF
Little & Sons Funeral Home
Dorothea Wheeler, age 90, of Greenwood, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2022. Dorothea was born September 16, 1931 in Danzig, Germany to the late Paula (Brosinsky) Riegert and Fritz Richard Riegert. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Wheeler; brothers, John Riegert and Walter Riegert; and brother-in-law, Paul Sparrow. She was a devout Christian woman who would read the Bible and pray multiple hours per day and was a member of LifePoint Church. As a young child she fled Germany as a refugee. Through The Underground she made her way to London and was on the last passenger ship to leave. She became a Canadian citizen and later moved to the United States and became a US Citizen after marrying Oscar Wheeler in the mid 1980's. She was always involved in Sunday School and leading bible studies as well as Vacation Bible School and youth groups. She also enjoyed making friends and talking to people, crafts including making macrame purses, and traveling. Her top skill was being a great mom, not just to her children, but to all the neighborhood and those around her. She most loved being a grandmother.
Dorothea is survived by her son, Peter Pollard; daughter, Janet Carr; grandson, Josiah Carr; siblings, Reynold Riegert (Geraldine), Eva Irwin (Rev. Dave), Edith Sparrow, and Margaret Dudley (Fred); sisters-in-law, Lois Riegert and Wilma Riegert; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and extended family members.
Visitation for Dorothea will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at LifePoint Church, 8450 Combs Rd, Indianapolis, Indiana, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM.
