IN THE CARE OF
Family Funeral Care-Rockville West
Barbara Alyce Worden, 74, of Plainfield, Indiana, passed from this life on September 6, 2022, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born on February 16, 1948, in Newport, RI, Barb met the love of her life, Joseph F. Worden, at Sacred Heart High School. They graduated and, shortly after, were married on September 3, 1966.
Barb’s professional career including paralegal work with some of Indianapolis’s premier law firms and public service as an administrative/executive assistant in the offices of the governor, Marion County prosecutor, Indiana General Assembly, and Hoosier Lottery.
Barb was active in politics and public and philanthropic service in Hendricks County, where she served on the sheriff’s merit board, supported local candidates, ran for county clerk, and gave her time lovingly as a volunteer coordinator for Project Angel.
A woman of many talents and interests, in her younger years, Barb enjoyed kickball, roller skating, piano, bowling, playing Euchre with friends, and music, especially Barbara Streisand and Barry Manilow (whom she saw in concert many times). In later life, Barb was a fan of cinema, with action movies as her favorites. Barb was also a dedicated fan of the Colts, for whom she rooted every Sunday since their arrival in Indianapolis.
But no interest or professional accomplishment ever eclipsed Barb’s unwavering devotion to her family.
Barbara is survived by her soulmate of 56 years, Joe, her two daughters, Laurie (James) Filsinger and Lisa (Phil) Neville, and her son, Christopher Worden (Erica). She is also survived by her father, Hershel Knight, her brother, Richard (Janelle) Gaither, and her grandchildren, Katy, Alyssa, Gabriel, Michelle, Shelby, Remi, and Raelin, and multiple cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mildred A. Knight and her sister, Lila Burris.
The family would like to express its sincere gratitude to the nurses of CARE Hospice for their loving care of Barb during her final days. We would also like to relay a special thank you to her granddaughter, Alyssa Dickey, for acting as her “personal nurse” to provide around-the-clock care so that her wish to be at home while passing could be granted.
To honor Barb’s generous heart, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers or others gifts, contributions be made to one of the following charities Barb supported: Project Angel of Hendricks County, https://www.projectangelofhendrickscounty.com/donate, Oinking Acres Farm Rescue & Sanctuary, https://oinkingacres.org/take-action, or Real Men Wear Pink – American Cancer Society, https://bit.ly/3SXVrVG
