Obituary of Amy Elizabeth Ours Smith
Amy Elizabeth Smith (Ours), 46, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on April 20, 2023, surrounded by her family and chosen family. Amy was born in Indianapolis to Gerald (Jerry) Ours and Debra (Debby) Ours on July 15, 1976. Amy grew up as a lover of all kinds of furry animals and showed horses in and around the State, regularly competing at the State level. Amy was a graduate of Lawrence North High School Class of 1994 and completed a year at the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville. After moving back home from USI, Amy was married to Tony Smith Ferreira in 1998 and welcomed their daughter Mikahla Ferreira. She then took some time to care for her daughter. Later in her life, Amy had a long-term relationship with Pat Terwilliger (and his daughter Hannah) and welcomed her second child Andrew Terwilliger. She adored being a mom to her children. Throughout the years, Amy battled to overcome her challenges with substance abuse. She was a strong proponent for mental health services and had a goal to become a peer counselor to those fighting a current battle with addiction. This journey led her to become baptized again at Lynhurst Baptist Church in Indianapolis. She regularly shared with people the gift of Jesus and her faith in God. Unfortunately, the toll on her body didn’t allow for the longevity of life her family deeply prayed for, and she entered Heaven after a brief hospital stay, with several loved ones waiting to greet her. She is now among the stars in the sky and looking over us all. Amy is preceded in death by all of her grandparents (George and Margaret (Peg) Ours, John Black and Patricia Kidd (Black)) and her Aunt Su Ours. Amy is survived by her children Mikahla (24) and Andrew (15), her parents Jerry and Debby Ours, her sister Kathryn (Katie) Wiley and brother-in-love Justin, her nephews Preston and Spencer Wiley, and her extended family. Funeral services will be held with a visitation from 12-1 and funeral at 1pm on Friday, April 28, 2023, at the Gothic Chapel at Crown Hill Cemetery with Glenn McDonald presiding. The family will then have a small private graveside service to lay Amy to rest. For friends and family, we invite you to join us to celebrate Amy’s life anytime from 2:30-6. Location details will be provided at the service, or please feel free to contact any family member to receive the address for this event. Memorials in Amy’s honor may be given to Celebrate Recovery’s local chapter with checks payable to Lynhurst Baptist Church with the note referencing Celebrate Recovery – Amy Smith at 1250 S. Lynhurst Dr., Indianapolis, IN 46241. Should your desire be to help her kids, please contact the family, and we will work with you to accomplish those goals. Amy’s family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Community North Hospital, Celebrate Recovery, Fairbanks Hospital, Women in Transition (Angola) and all of Amy’s friends who loved and supported her in life and in her last days. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.crownhill.org for the Ours Smith family.
