Thelma June (Plasterer) King, 92 of Lafayette and formerly of Huntington passed away at 8:40 am on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at the Bee Hive Homes in Lafayette. Thelma was a 1943 graduate of Lancaster Township High School, and later graduated from Ball State University in 1947 with her bachelor’s degree in nursing. She worked as a registered nurse at Huntington Memorial Hospital for over 40 years and as a private duty nurse. She spent as much time as possible with her brothers, Don, Ed, Paul and Carl, their wives, children and grandchildren. Thelma was an avid gardener who preserved as much as she could for family and friends. She loved to play cards, especially double deck bid euchre with family and friends, the more the merrier. She was a passionate reader of all genres. She especially enjoyed science fiction and mysteries. Her belief in the value of education was instilled in her sons both graduating from Purdue University. She traveled across America in a motor home after retirement to visit friends and family. She traveled to Europe multiple times after retirement and loved seeing the places she had read about and pictured. Thelma volunteered at the Forks of the Wabash Museum and enjoyed the many children she worked with.
Thelma was born on June 20, 1925 in Huntington County, the daughter of Charles and Bessie (Buzzard) Plasterer.
She was united in marriage to Robert L. King on August 15, 1947. He preceded her in death in 2004.
Survivors include two sons: Clifford L. King of Aurora, CO; Ronald A. King of Lafayette and a brother: Carl Plasterer of LaGrange, IN.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and four brothers: Donald H. Plasterer, Edward Dale Plasterer, Paul Arthur Plasterer and Kenneth Plasterer.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made out to Habitat for Humanity of Huntington in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
