Obituary of Dorothy (Dot)   Adams Thompson
Dorothy (Dot) Adams Thompson passed away at Oak Lea Nursing Home in Harrisonburg, VA on Saturday, January 26, 2013. She was the daughter of the late Thomas W. and Elizabeth H. Adams and was born June 14, 1928 in Danville, VA. Dot lived in Danville, graduating from George Washington High School. She spent many years working in retail prior to her marriage in 1951 to her high school sweetheart, Walker (Tinker) Thompson. Following her marriage, she moved to Athens, GA with her husband while he attended veterinary college. She moved to Harrisonburg in 1961 with her family where she was very active in the Asbury United Methodist Church’s Sunday School, choir and United Methodist Women. She loved music and was a devoted choir member of many years. She was a member of Sherwood Garden Club and was active for many years selling daffodils to raise funds for the American Cancer Society’s local chapter. She enjoyed playing bridge, and playing golf with the ladies and the mixed couples group on Friday evenings. Dot is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dr. Walker S. Thompson, DVM; a daughter, Damarius T. Marion and husband, John Williams of Williamsburg, VA; two sons, Forrest W. Thompson of Lexington, VA and Thomas L. (Tommy) Thompson and wife, Allison of Harrisonburg and five grandchildren, Whitney and husband, Larry Horowitz of Norristown, PA; Katherine and husband, Michael Cale of Carrsville, VA; Sarah Thompson of Dayton, VA; and Walker N. and Jane E. Thompson of Harrisonburg; and one great granddaughter, Madison G. Parker of Dayton, VA. Her body will be cremated at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home and Crematory and a Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday morning, Jan. 30, 2013 at Asbury United Methodist Church with Dr. Ben Burks and Rev. Kathleen Overby-Webster officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 pm Tuesday evening from the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Music Program at Asbury United Methodist Church or Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community Compassionate Care, in her memory.
