Obituary of Alfred Lee Williams Jr.
Alfred Lee Williams Jr., age 61, of Newport News, Virginia passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023. Alfred Lee Williams Jr., affectionately known as “Pee-Wee,” or “Fred,” transitioned to be with the Lord on August 18, 2023, at the Sentara CarePlex Hospital in Hampton, Virginia. His love for family remains heartfelt, though he has accepted the call that brought him home. Alfred was born to Eloise Shanks and Alfred Lee Williams Sr., in Goldsboro North Carolina, on February 12, 1962. A native of Hampton Roads, he was educated in the City of Hampton’s public school system. He graduated from Phoebus High School, where he proudly represented the “Phantoms” as a member of the football team. Alfred dedicated twenty-eight years to the United States Army, with a career spanning Active Duty, Reserve and Civil service. He completed overseas tours in Operation Just Cause, Operation Desert Storm, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. His decorations included four Army Achievement Medals, four Army Good Conduct Medals, two Army Reserve Components Achievement Medals, a National Defense Service Medal, an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, a Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, two Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbons, an Army Service Ribbon and three Overseas Service Ribbons. After retiring from the Army, Alfred delighted in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Their favorite past-times with their “Papa-Man” were go-carting, RV-ing and boat riding. It is was the joy on their faces and his inner auto enthusiast that led him to fervently grow his collection of cars. Shortly after, he began to build the second iteration of his former automotive business, A&E Transport. Alfred was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ed and Early Shanks; and paternal grandparents, Robert and Cornelia Williams. He leaves to cherish beautiful memories of his life with his wife Provokie; his daughter, Aiya (Sharod); his son, Eman (China); his grandchildren, Amari, Maiyez, Sariyh and Yannis; his mother, Eloise; his sister, Pamela; his brother, Daniel; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins that loved him dearly. A visitation for Alfred will be held Friday, August 25, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, Virginia. A celebration of life service will occur Friday, August 25, 2023 at 10:00 AM, 2551 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, Virginia.
