IN THE CARE OF
Bittles & Hurt Funeral Home
Tonya Kaye Harris Sears, 72, passed peacefully on April 20, 2023, surrounded by family.
She was born in Greencastle, on June 1, 1950, to Kenneth and Rosamary Harris.
Tonya married Michael Sears on July 7, 1973, and was mother to Michael Jr., whom she adored. Sister to Bernie (Jan) Harris, Doretta (Bill) Poynter, Larry (Richard) Harris, and stepsister to Doug (Joanne) Bryan, Alan (Barb) Bryan, and Debbie (Steve) Gause. She was also the loving and “FUN” aunt, great aunt, and great-great aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Tonya was preceded in death by her parents, brother Bernie, and stepbrother Doug.
Tonya was a 10-year member of 4-H. She worked for P. R. Mallory in Greencastle for over 30 years until their closure, followed by work at A-M Glass, when she retired in 2010. A life-long fan of the Beatles, she was lucky enough to attend their concert at the Indiana State Fair in 1964, and as an avid sports fan would frequently travel to attend Cincinnati Reds and Bengals games. She cherished her cats, enjoyed camping, miniature golf, and live theater. A kind and loving individual, she will be remembered for her deep love of the Christmas holiday, crafting Christmas decorations, her homemade Christmas care packages containing homemade cookies and Chex-mix, delivered to family and friends, and the many hours spent with loved-ones reminiscing, singing, and playing card and board games. Tonya will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of life for all family and friends who have been touched by Tonya will be held at the Greencastle National Guard Armory (401 N Arlington St) on Sunday June 11, 2023, from 2 to 5 P.M.
