Obituary of Maureen Annette Marcus
Maureen Annette Marcus, age 66 of Fredericksburg, Virginia (originally San Leandro, California) passed away on Tuesday, September 12th, 2023. Maureen grew up in the Washington Manor neighborhood of San Leandro, CA in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1975, she graduated from Marina High School. She fell in love with Al Marcus, who lived across the street from where she grew up. In 1977, they married, moving into their first home on Bockman Rd in San Lorenzo, later moving to Sitka Street before eventually moving back into Al’s childhood home where they would raise their one and only child, Robert. Maureen was a devoted stay-at-home mom, enrolling Robert into Kiddie College at Washington Manor Park. This included numerous outings to alternative locations such as state parks. It was during these outings that Maureen stood out as one of the few parents willing to pull her pant legs up and wade into the creeks and streams catching tadpoles for the kids. She was always one of the first to jump in. Until starting High School, Maureen drove Robert to and from school every day, never missing a single school event, baseball practice or game, or any other need her son had. During this time, Maureen also diligently kept the books for Al’s array of businesses. She truly kept her family afloat. She was a do-er. If you wanted something done, everyone knew Maureen would help take care of it! In 1993, Maureen and her family fell in love the with Alaskan Malamute dog breed. Upon Robert’s departure for military service in 2000, and settling down away from California, Maureen became more involved in the local Alaskan Malamute club, holding the position of Secretary and others. When a local rescue organization was created, she was right there to help, and she continued that support until her final days. In 2013, Al suffered a significant stroke, leaving him paralyzed on his left side. Maureen and Al made the decision to move to Fredericksburg to be closer to Robert and their two grandchildren Aryssa and Landon. It was here that the family would be close and see each other often again. Maureen spent her time caring for Al, fiddling with landscaping, and continued to support her Northern California Malamute organizations. Maureen is survived by her husband, son, grandchildren, sister, brother and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. A small family-only Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, 22 September 2023, from 2pm-3pm at the Fredericksburg Chapel, Mullins & Thompson Funeral Home, 1621 Emancipation Hwy, Fredericksburg, VA 22401.
