Obituary of John Michael Lestans Summerlin
The Summerlin family sadly announces that John Michael Lestans (le-STANS) Summerlin died suddenly, February 15, 2023, in his home. He was 28 years old. John was loved by anyone he knew. He had a contagious smile and a fierce compassion for fun and laughs, even at his own expense! God gifted him a beautiful voice and a children’s ministry mind-set. He loved singing - even karaoke - and being the main character in Vacation Bible School skits. John could seek out a child having a bad day and just sit near them until they felt better. His gentle spirit preceded him and people could feel accepted and loved just being near him. John was born in Pordenone, Italy while his father was stationed at Aviano. John attained the highest level of Eagle Scout at 16 years old. John graduated from Snider High School 2013, and was involved in soccer, drama, and AP classes. He continued his education at Ivy Tech and IPFW. His servant heart followed his employment serving as wait staff and making every meal special at Triangle Park for several years. Other jobs followed suit, but none he spoke of with such care. Surviving John are his parents, Mark and Jessica Summerlin; siblings Matthew Summerlin, Taylor Summerlin, Melissa Summerlin, Jackson Summerlin, Jerrod Winston, Candice Cutrer, (niece Clara Elise) and David Summerlin; his paternal grandparents Clarence and Sarah Summerlin, maternal grandmother (Mema) Barbara Burnett; aunts Janelle Barriga, Bethany McCourt, Elizabeth Graves, and Lee Ann Eiland. John is preceded in death by his maternal great grandfather William Burnett, paternal great grandparents Clarence and Sarah Summerlin, his paternal grandmother Gladys Fortenberry, maternal grandfather Jesse Barriga, and his paternal aunt Sherian Snyder. Our family takes great comfort in knowing John is a child of God, cross-marked and baptized. He waits in Heavenly Father’s arms for us, and we will see him again. A Celebration of life will be 3:30 pm Sunday February 19, 2023 at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church 4700 Vance Ave. Fort Wayne, IN with visitation from 1:00 pm until service time.
