John Kassius Gordy

JOHN KASSIUS GORDY, 98, of Fort Wayne, died on Thursday, July 26, 2012, at his residence. Born July 8, 1914, in Syracuse, he was the son of the late John F. and Carrie C. (Smith) Gordy. He led a full and productive life. In the 1940's, he worked at GE and also drove a taxi cab, during which time he delivered two babies. He was also a Real Estate Broker and owned several businesses. He was a member of Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Mizpah Temple. Surviving are his daughters, Janet L. Shroyer-Plunkett of Churubusco, Judith Gordy of Fort Wayne and Jo Ann Gribben of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 24 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Helen Jones of Mishawaka and Betty Fitton of Warsaw. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Nevada (Applegate) Gordy, in 1998; and sons, John V. Gordy, in 1993 and Jon A. and Jack Gordy, both in 2000. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2012, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road. The Rev. Corinne Boruff-Stucker officiating. Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 29, 2012, at the funeral home. Burial in Bower's Cemetery. Preferred memorials to Heartland Hospice
