Obituary of George Gustave Goodman
George G. Goodman 91, passed away on Monday April 17, 2023. In the days preceding his death George was in the presence of his loving family. George was born to Gustave Goodman and Ruth (Koselke) Goodman on February 27, 1932. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1950. Upon graduation George enlisted in the Army and served from 1950-1957. While in the Army, George was deployed to Korea, where he fought with the Army’s artillery forces. After 19 months in Korea, George returned stateside and continued to serve as reservist until his Honorable Discharge in 1957. George married Margaret McGrath on May 7, 1955 and they had four children. George spent most of his career in the electronics industry. He initially worked at Farnsworth Television and Radio Corporation which later became ITT Industrial Research labs. George was eventually recruited by Magnavox where he worked for over 30 years in purchasing/government contracts. George retired in 1997 as Director of Purchasing from Magnavox’s successor, Raytheon. George and Margaret loved to travel and spent many winters vacationing in Florida. They also enjoyed two trips to Europe and especially loved the Bavarian Alps. George is survived by two sons, Andrew Goodman (Julie) and Thomas Goodman (Julie), daughter Linda Polley (Donald), daughter-in law, Cynthia Hines Goodman, 11 grandchildren, Lindsey (Mark) Hackman, Timothy (Katy) Goodman, Nicole (Markus) Kaiser, John (Lauren) Goodman, Andrew (Kourtney) Goodman, Matthew (Kelsey) Goodman, Thomas (Phyllis) Polley, Michael Polley, Scot (Rachel) Polley, Kellee Goodman and Shellee Goodman, and 16 (soon to be 17) great-grandchildren. George is also survived by his siblings, Germaine Yaney, Joan Bobay of Cincinnati and Michael (Karen) Goodman of Oklahoma City. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret (McGrath) Goodman, his eldest son, Timothy Goodman, and his siblings John Goodman, Mary Staskelunas and Leoba Stratton. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Jude’s Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. on Friday April 28, 2023, with visitation one hour prior to the Mass. Memorial calling will also be held on Thursday April 27, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at D.O. McComb and sons Funeral Home - Pine Valley. Military Honors ceremony will occur at 6:00 p.m. Preferred Memorials to Bishop Dwenger Scholarship Fund or Heart-to-Heart Hospice.
