G. Loran Lewis

G. Loran Lewis, 93, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Lutheran Life Villages - Pine Valley, Fort Wayne. Born April 28, 1925 in rural Fresno, CA, he was the son of Loran S. Lewis and Edith M. (Tyler) Lewis. He graduated from Washington Union High School in 1943 and served in the US Army Air Force in the Pacific Theater in World War II. He then attended Fresno State College, graduating in 1950, and went to Pittsburgh-Xenia (now Pittsburgh) Seminary, graduating in 1953 and being ordained into the ministry of the United Presbyterian Church of North America. He married Carolyn B. (Wagoner) Lewis on December 27, 1956 in Clarinda, IA. He attended the University of Illinois and earned a PhD in the field of Early American history in 1971. His career as Pastor included churches in Indianola, IA, Saratoga, CA, Urbana, IL, Greenville, IL, and Richmond, IN. From 1971 to 1984 he taught at Greenville College in Greenville, IL. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Colorado Springs from 1992-2005. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law James and Pamela of Fort Wayne. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, May Almgren of Fresno, CA.A few years ago he closed a short biography with the phrase “Such are the bare facts of my life. By God's goodness I have been able to unite my learning and teaching abilities and the work of a pastor in the service of His love for mankind. Anything I have accomplished has been only through the goodness of his grace. To God alone be any glory.” Funeral service will be 1:30pm, Thursday, July 26, at Advantage Funeral and Cremation Service, 2403 East Wallen Road, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Memorial donations may be given to Wycliffe Bible Translators.
