Obituary of Daniel Allen Neuenschwander
Daniel A. Neuenschwander, 68, of Waynedale, passed away on Monday, March 15, 2021. Dan was born December 20, 1952 at Camp Atterbury in Edinburgh, Indiana, the eldest son of the late Lowell and Vera Neuenschwander and Richard and Darlene (Reed) Armstrong. He was a graduate of Elmhurst High School, class of 1971. Dan joined the Army in January of 1975 and was honorably discharged in April of 1982. He was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Fort Hood, Texas; and Grafenwoehr, Germany. He served as a combat engineer in the 17th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Armored Division—Patton’s own, “Hell on Wheels.” His ribbons, medals, and badges include; The Army Service Ribbon, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Marksman (Rifle), Sharpshooter (Hand Grenade). Dan was a member of the American Legion Post 241. He was also a member of UAW Local 3055. He had worked various places such as Azars, auto detailing at a dealership, Montgomery Wards, Carquest Auto Parts, and most recently TI Automotive, Advanced Assembly, and Autozone. Dan’s passions in life included anything with a motor. He enjoyed restoring old cars and trucks, rebuilding motors, muscle cars, racing, model cars, watching auto shows on tv and attending them in person. He was an avid Harley Davidson fan. Growing up on the family farm, Dan and Don learned from a young age to work on mowers, tractors, and other farm equipment. He enjoyed spending time with his dad attending tractor shows and flea markets and tinkering in the garage. He also enjoyed Rock n' Roll music, watching old westerns, and other black and white classics like Andy Griffith, Leave It to Beaver, and the Little Rascals. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Dan is survived by his daughters, Danielle (Kenneth) Huestis, Christi (Christopher) O’Brien, and Valerie (Robert) Troumbley; step-children, Patrick (Kyli) Zeigler and Sabrina Zeigler; grandchildren, Mikayla (Sebastian) Francis, Julie Huestis, Katie Huestis, Cade O’Brien, Mackenzie O’Brien, William O’Brien, Tevin Troumbley, Marissa Troumbley, Michael Zeigler and River Zeigler; great-grandson, Ryan Francis; the mother of his children, Peggy Rowley; the mother of his step-children, Mary Neuenschwander; half-brother, Derk (Joyce) Armstrong; step-siblings, Carolyn Kinzer, Stephen (Diana) Neate, Pamela (Mike) Klinger, and Kathy Masoner; brother-in-law, Michael Schober; aunt, Della (John) Blessing; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Besides his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Neuenschwander. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
