Betty I. Butler, 91, died peacefully Thursday, January 29, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family and accompanied by the haunting strains of “The Old Rugged Cross”. Born at home in Jay County to Harry and Ida Havens on September, 29, 1923, she grew up in a rural, farming community. She married Harold Butler on April 19, 1942. She was a homemaker, worked for IACM, volunteered at Fox Island County Park Bird Sanctuary, belonged to the Indiana State Poetry Society and was a member of the Taylor Chapel Methodists Stitchers. She loved quilting, nature, traveling, working crossword puzzles, music playing games and baking for her grandchildren. “Betty loved to write poems and short stories.” With her husband, they raised three children; Darleen of Fort Wayne, Wayne (Diana) of Grovertown, IN and Rita (Rick) Binford of Gillett, WI. She is also survived by six grandchildren (Kiana, Trevor, Christine, Audrey, Wendy and Brandon plus one great grandchild (Noah)). She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Harold in 1994. Funeral service is 2 p.m. Monday, February 2, 2015 at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Calling will also be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home. Burial at Leo Memorial Cemetery.
