Reuben Joseph Johnson, 100, died peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on February 21, 2015. He was born in Orland, California on November 29, 1914, the third of eight children of Scandinavian immigrants. After earning a B.S. in Civil Engineering at the University of California at Berkeley and serving as a naval officer in World War II, he began a career with the Army Corps of Engineers, working on a variety of water projects around the US. In 1966 he moved to Washington, DC, where he served as Deputy Directory of the Water Resources Council. After his retirement in 1974, he continued to work as a consultant on water projects around the world. He was accompanied on these trips by his wife, Bernice, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage before her death in 1997. He was a life long member of the Evangelical Free Church, to which he devoted his time and talents, serving at local, regional, and national levels. He also served on the board of Youth for Christ, and continued as an active member of the Christian Businessmen’s Committee until his death. He is survived by his wife Judite, sons Dennis and Kent, daughters Sandra Meisinger and Marjorie Norris, and two foster sons, Richard and John Mayer, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm on Thursday, February 26, at Jesus Messiah Evangelical Free Church of Hanover, Pennsylvania. A funeral service will take place at 12:00 pm on Friday, February 27 at Cornerstone (Evangelical Free Church) in Annandale, Virginia. Interment will follow at 2:00 pm at Fairfax Memorial Garden in Fairfax, Virginia.
