Olga Otero Munoz
January 29, 1945 – November 9, 2024
IN THE CARE OF
National Funeral Home & Memorial Park
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Olga, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left us peacefully on November 9, 2024. She was 79 years old.
Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Olga married her beloved husband, Francisco (Frank), a dedicated member of the U.S. Air Force. Together, they traveled the world, building a life of love, adventure, and unwavering support for one another. After the birth of their eldest son, they moved to the United States, where they lived at various military bases in Florida, California, Alabama, and Virginia. Their journey culminated in Virginia, where they made their home after Frank retired from the Air Force.
Olga was an extraordinary woman, known for her caring nature and tireless devotion to family and community. For over 40 years, she taught Spanish in schools across the country, inspiring countless students with her passion for language and culture. Even after retiring from Fairfax County Public Schools, she continued to give back, serving as a substitute teacher at private schools and her church’s Catholic school, always with a smile and a generous heart.
In addition to her career, Olga was a passionate athlete, playing soccer while raising her three sons and later supporting them in their own endeavors. She loved the company of friends, and her warm hospitality was legendary—many cherished evenings spent over a glass of wine, sharing stories and laughter.
Olga was a proud and loving mother to her three sons, David, Frankie (spouse Amy) and Carlos, and a doting grandmother to her three grandchildren, Alexander (Alex), Katherine (Katie) and Collin. She is also survived by her two sisters, Wanda and Rosa, a brother, Edwin (Papo), and four nieces and nephews who held her in the highest regard. Her legacy of kindness, love, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 3700 Blenheim Blvd, Fairfax, VA 22030 on November 19, 2024 at promptly 11:00 AM, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, Veteran Groups, Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, and St. Jude.
Olga will be dearly missed by all, but her spirit, warmth, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know her.
