Ethel Helene Robertson Wood

Ethel Helene Roberston Wood of Bristow, VA, previously of Annandale, VA age 95, passed away peacefully at home on January 24, 2022 surrounded by family. She was the daughter of John William and Annabelle Wright Robertson of Bedford, VA. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 wonderful years, Alonzo Edwin Wood, Jr., sister Katherine Robertson Turner, and brother John William (Jack) Robertson, Jr. She is survived by her daughters Donna P. Wood of Raleigh, NC and Diane Wood Young of Bristow, VA. Three grandchildren, Lee Ann B. Wolfenden (Robert), Stephanie Barnosky-Brown (Matthew) and Brian E. Young (Roxanna), five great grandsons, Jason, Nathan, Andrew, and Brian Stanley and many nieces and nephews. Helene often reminisced about growing up on a farm in Bedford only to blossom into a city girl once she and “Ed” settled in Northern Virginia. She was smart, politically active, quick witted, giving of her time by volunteering with American Cancer Society, life long member of Grace Baptist Church formerly of Alexandria, VA, serving as the first church secretary. Her interests included genealogy, spending time visiting ancestral cemeteries, golf, playing bridge, bowling, traveling all over the world and US and in later life watching game shows. But most of all she was devoted to her family. She was truly a gentle, honest, ‘Southern Lady’ all her life. Pallbearers include: grandson Brian E. Young, all great grandsons Jason Girdler II, Nathan Girdler, Andrew Wolfenden, Brian S. Young, nephew Kenneth Vaughn Wood.
