Anne Detzer Shirk

Anne Detzer Shirk: Feb 27, 1933-April 9, 2016. Anne Detzer Shirk's spirit left our Earth on Saturday, April 9, 2016, right before the sun gave way to clouds full of frozen flurries. My grandmother, Anne, hated the snow and the cold, being a native of southern California. She never ceased telling stories about hot, dry days on the tennis courts, and walking between classes at Pomona, her beloved school. Anne worked as a 4th grade teacher at the Potomac School in McLean Va from 1967-1978 and later took great joy and pride in working for the Episcopal Bishop of Washington in the late 80's and 90's. Her life revolved around her kin, and she always had tales of pride about her grandchildren. She loved her grandchildren very much, and you can find photos of them cluttering her home. She leaves her son Paul Michael Shirk and his wife Michelle Fitzsimmons, Michael's son Paul Shirk, daughter Kristin Gomez and her husband Joel and their children Katrina Anne Snyder, Jamie Raye Snyder, Rebecca Gomez and Benjamin Gomez and her beloved sister and Brother Deborah Gaye Detzer and Eric Detzer and their children. I love you Granne, thank you for making sure to remind us to live life as we want. You did not want to see those huge snowflakes that April morning, and I laughed knowing your spirit was free from this Earth, free to go enjoy California sunshine forever. Memorial Service is Monday, April 18, 2016 at noon at the old chapel of the Falls Church Episcopal Church located at 115 East Fairfax, Falls Church, VA 22046. Luncheon to follow.
