Obituary of Silas Upton Jenkins
Silas Upton Jenkins passed away at the age of 89 on April 10, 2020. He went by Upton and was born on August 9, 1930 in Gordonsville, Virginia. His beloved parents were Grover and Lucy Jenkins. He is survived by his wife, Ely Jenkins, brother, Grover Jenkins, sister, Alma Steed, children, and grandchildren. Upton attended Warren High School in Front Royal, Virginia and later enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Once his service time ended as Airman First Class in 1954, he continued his studies at the University of Virginia, proudly completing a Bachelor in Electric Engineering in June of 1960. After continued engineering practices, owning hard earned wisdom and vision, Upton founded his own company -Universal Color System- creating the source of colors for other companies. He was not only able to see the surface to produce colors, but also the depth of their creation. A food lover, especially for American food and a great taste for homemade meals; a slice of apple pie with a cup of coffee and country music to soothe road trips. An honorable Patriot, and a true Virginia lover, for him, the most beautiful state in the USA, where he lived almost all of his life. His passions included traveling around the world and sailing his sailboat “Uptop” in the Chesapeake Bay estuaries around the Mid- Atlantic. He loved the heat of summer and spending time outdoors, creating the most delightful landscapes, gardening and taking long walks, surrounding himself with color. A great golf enthusiast and a connoisseur of nature, he enjoyed playing for long hours while observing the scenery. We will always carry happy memories and your example in our hearts. A chapel service will take place at Demain Funeral Home on April 16, following with the burial immediately. Flowers may be sent to 10565 Main St. Fairfax, VA 22030
