Obituary of Nancy Lee Cammarata
Nancy Cammarata, of Fairfax, Virginia died peacefully at the home of her daughter, Rita in Locust Grove, Va. surrounded by her family, on Friday, November 26, 2021. Nancy was born on December 5th, 1937 in Centerville, Virginia. After high school, she moved to Washington D.C, working as a secretary while she attended George Washington University at night, earning an associates degree in history. She worked in the CIA for 10 years, serving in several overseas posts, including Turkey, where she met her husband Alfred. After returning to the States in 1975, she worked at Olde Creek elementary School as a teachers aide for a special needs class, and then worked for many years as a legal secretary. Nancy enjoyed an active life style, playing soccer into her 50’s, snow skiing with a local ski club for 25 years where she was proud of skiing many difficult courses across the states. She loved to travel, taking many world wide trips with her husband Al. She was an avid reader, followed history and politics, loved scrabble, played in a local bridge club, and enjoyed water aerobics. She loved going to the Kennedy Center with her friends She was very proud of her grandchildren and loved them fiercely, and never missed a sporting or special event. Survivors include her daughter Rita, her husband Doug, and grandkids Ryan, Kaitlyn, and Kyle, also her son, Alfred Jr. his wife Holly and grandson Brad; sisters Betty and Janet and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. She is preceded in death by her husband Al, her parents, and sister Jean. Nancy faced her eight year battle with cancer, as she did her life, with a strength, determination and resilience that is an inspiration to all that knew her. She will be remembered for her incredible love of life, strength of character, and gentle nature.
