Obituary of Jane Frances Munson
Jane Frances (Manning) Munson, 83, passed away on October 7th, 2014 in Fairfax, Virginia, surrounded by her loving family. Jane is survived by her husband Homer C. “Jack” Munson of Fairfax, VA; her children: daughter Susan and husband Cary Allen of Laurel, MD, daughter Sandy of Wash. D.C., daughter Kathy and husband Berge Pechtimaldjian of San Diego, CA, and son Greg and wife Jackie of Springfield, VA; loving grandchildren Michelle, Jenny, Joe and Bradley Allen, Emeri and Kira Pechtimaldjian, and step-grandchildren Jose and John Escalona and Megan Santiago; her older brother Richard Manning of Penn Hills, PA; and multiple nieces and nephews. Jane was born on October 2nd, 1931 to Samuel and Winifred Manning in Pittsburgh, PA. She grew up in Pittsburgh with her older brother Richard (Dick). She attended Catholic schools through high school and then went on to obtain a nursing degree, graduating from St. Joseph Hospital’s School of Nursing in 1952. Following graduation, Jane was commissioned into the Air Force as a nurse. She enjoyed being stationed overseas in such places as Morocco. Returning to the states, she was stationed at March AFB, in Riverside, CA. There she met her future husband, Jack, an Air Force officer. They were married in November 1957. Their first child, Susan, was born there. The family was next stationed at Torrejon AFB, Madrid, Spain where their next two children, Sandy and Kathy were born. They returned to March AFB where their last child, son Greg, was born. Jane’s husband Jack was next assigned to Vietnam. While he was away, Jane moved back to her home town of Pittsburgh, to be near her family. Following Jack’s return to the states, Jane and their family settled into a new home in Fairfax, VA, where Jack took a civilian government position in the Intelligence Community. Jane loved being a mom to her four children and she also enjoyed working. She first worked as a nurse at the Northern Virginia Training Center, and next worked for many years as a nurse at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, in Washington DC. Jane retired from nursing to her home in Fairfax City. She loved being with her family, and counted her children and grandchildren among her greatest joys.
