Hubert Joshua Botts

Hubert J. Botts, 95, passed away on June 5, 2024 at his home of 62 years. His wife, Gertrude Mahoney, passed away in 2012. He and Gertrude each had 8 brothers and sisters. Hubert’s family members include his daughter Wanda, son Tracy, granddaughters Monica and Cristina (deceased), great grandsons Jacob, Mason, and Elijah, great-great grandsons Theo and Malcolm, and many nieces and nephews. Hubert was born in Shelby NC. He served in the US Army from 1950-52 in Europe. Eventually he went to work at Vepco Power Company and retired from there in 1986. He was also a proud and long-standing member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). Hubert began playing golf when he settled in Fairfax. Golf led to many friendships. He enjoyed the competition from the very beginning, as highlighted by having played in the USGA Senior Open in 1983 and 1986, as well as the USGA Senior Amateur in 1987, 1993, and 1994. A gathering of remembrance will be held after the graveside service for Hubert at a to be determined location.
