Alexander Funeral Home-West Chapel
Thomas Wayne West (Tom), 64, passed away on June 27, 2024 at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville after a long battle with cancer.
Tom was born in Evansville on September 22, 1959 to the late John Edith (Tummins) West. He was a lifetime member of New Bethel Baptist Church. He attended Tekoppel grade school and graduated from Reitz High School in 1977.
Tom served in the US Navy on active duty from 1986 to 1989 primarily on the USS Nassau during which time he participated in several deployments. After completion of active duty, Tom served in the active Naval Reserve for an additional three years.
Tom was employed at Silgan Closures for 30 years where he was a HAAR operator and mechanic. He was an avid fan of Reitz Panther football. Tom enjoyed reading and had broad knowledge of various topics focusing largely on politics and history, especially World War II.
Tom is survived by his brothers, David (Bonnie Gelke) West and Ronald (Jennifer) West; daughter, Ashley Hester (Ryan); grandson, Oliver Bauer; nephews, Tim and Mark West; and special cousin, Vicki (Wendell) Kell.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Jeffrey.
Visitation will be held at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois St., Evansville, IN on Sunday, June 30, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and again on Monday, July 1, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 1, 2024 at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Reverend Cole Hughes. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery after the service.
The family extends special thanks to the team members at Deaconess Gateway and Deaconess Midtown campuses; the team members at River Pointe Health Campus; Dr. Karim Anwar and the staff at the Deaconess Chancellor Center for Oncology; the staff at Linda White Hospice; and Sara Lipking, Human Resources Director at Silgan Closures.
