Obituary of Thelma Hisch
Thelma “Butch” Carrel Hisch, age 89, of Evansville, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013 at her home. Thelma was born August 28, 1923 in Evansville to the late Arnold and Frances (Walters) Stucke. She was a lifelong member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and had worked for and retired from Berry Plastics. She supported the World War II effort by working for Briggs in Evansville. She loved every minute spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchild and enjoyed life to the fullest, especially while dancing in her high heeled shoes and watching old westerns. Thelma was blessed with a quick wit and always made light of even the most trying situations. She never met a stranger and was kind and considerate to all. In her own words, she described her life, “I’ve had a lot of fun.” Surviving are three children, Sam (Karen) Carrel and Francie (Robin) Schofield, both of Dallas, TX and Joe (Jennifer) Carrel of Evansville; five grandchildren, Anne Carrel, Emily DiCarlo, Whitney Barnard, Sean Davis and Nickolas Carrel; a great grandchild, Alfy DiCarlo; five nieces and two nephews. In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her first husband, Lawrence Carrel in 1985; second husband, Walter Hisch in 2011; her twin sister, Selma Stucke, sister, Evelyn Vitzdamm; brother, Sam Stucke and nephew, Jim Vitzdamm. A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Rev. Kenneth Herr officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a memorial service held at 4:00 P.M. Friends may also visit with the family from 10:00 A.M. until service time on Thursday at St. Boniface. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of AseraCare Hospice for their kindness, compassion and care given to Thelma. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface Catholic Church, 418 N. Wabash Avenue, Evansville, IN.
