Nancy Jane Burkes-AcornEvansville, Ind.Nancy Jane Burkes-Acorn, 60, of Evansville, left this earth Wednesday, October 15, 2014. She was born September 28, 1954. She became a surrogate mother to so many of the children she met during her years on this earth, and was known as "Mama Nancy". She loved all of them. Nothing gave her more pleasure than helping others in need. A single hug from her could make you feel as though everything was going to be alright. She will be deeply missed by all of those who were touched by her kindness.
Nancy will be greeted at Heaven's gates by her parents, Delbert and Pauline Burkes; her daughter, Rebekah Acorn; grandson, Anakin Taylor; and nephew, Jared Arnn. She leaves behind her remaining three children, Steven C. Acorn, Christina Acorn, Taylor and Ian R. Acorn. She also leaves behind her brother and his wife, Delbert and Connie Burkes; as well as her many grandchildren, Katelynn, Emileigh, Malechai, Logan and Steven Charles Jr. Along with her immediate family, she leaves behind many cousins, extended family and a large group of devoted and loving friends.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, October 20, 2014, at Alexander Memorial Park Heritage Chapel, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Monday from 10 a.m. to noon at Alexander East Chapel. Condolences may be made online at www.AlexanderEastChapel.com.
