Obituary of Jerry Wayne Blake
Jerry Wayne Blake, 80, of Evansville, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023. He was born January 11, 1943, in Henderson, Kentucky to the late Monroe and Essie (Wilkerson) Blake. Jerry served in the US Army. He retired from Whirlpool Corporation after 40 years of service. He also worked in carpentry and landscaping. Jerry was a member of Vann Avenue Baptist Church. He loved bowling, gambling, camping, hunting, fishing, and everything about boating. He also enjoyed cards, especially clabber. Jerry loved spending time with his family and giving everyone a hard time, especially during card games. He was very proud that he had been to all 50 states, seven different countries, and the Caribbean Islands. He enjoyed traveling and had been on seven cruises. Within 15 months, Jerry turned his second wife “Nadie” into a gambler, drinker, and an impatient driver. He also taught her how to keep plants alive. He never went anywhere without his candy. He did not have just one sweet tooth, he had a mouth full of sweet teeth. Jerry was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda L. Blake; daughter, Lisa Romero; sister, Margie Watson; brothers, William, Monroe, Marvin, Clifton, Donald, and Danny Blake. He is survived by his wife, Doris N. (Coomes) Blake; son, Larry McCullough (Barbara) of Atoka, TN; daughter, Linda Denise Pfister of Evansville; son, Christopher Blake (Amanda) of Newburgh; son, James-Michael Blake (Shaneen) of Chesterfield, MI; daughter, Jennifer Day of Lynville, IN; sister, Nadine Schwaller (Albert); eleven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Dr. Rev. Larry T. Lewis, with entombment in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The funeral service will be livestreamed at www.facebook.com/FuneralStreamUSA beginning at 12:45 p.m. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at Alexander East Chapel and Wednesday from Noon until service time at the funeral home.
