Obituary of Janette Boylls Prickett
Janette Boylls (Howard) Prickett, 84, of Evansville passed away Sunday, September 22, 2024. She was born March 15, 1940 in Evansville to the late Harry and Nina Mae Boylls. She graduated from Central High School in 1958 and attended the University of Evansville (then Evansville College), where she majored in music. She was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity and Chi Omega Social Sorority. Janette taught piano in Evansville and Henderson, KY for 20 years. She served as organist and sometimes choir director for 50 years in Evansville, Henderson, Americus, GA, and St. Petersburg, FL churches. Evansville churches included Bethel UCC, St. John's East UCC, Trinity UMC, and Old North UMC. She lived in Americus, GA from 1978-1980 where her husband, Jim, was the first paid staff member at Habitat for Humanity International, other than it's founder, Millard Fuller. Janette was a 40-50 hour a week volunteer, serving as receptionist, secretary, and bookkeeper. She typed for court reporters for 9 years in St. Petersburg, FL before moving back to Evansville in 1991. In 1994, she began working as the office manager for Habitat for Humanity of Evansville. When she semi-retired, Janette continued to work half time as the assistant office manager and accounts receivable person. She was a member of the Pinellas County Community Chorus and the Evansville Philharmonic Chorus. She also volunteered for the Komen Race for the Cure on several occasions. Janette was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Dr. James R. Prickett; daughter, Melissa Jane (Howard) Connors; her parents; brother, Donald Lee Boylls; and sister, Carole Fox. She is survived by her son, Jeff Howard (Sheila Stout); stepson, Brad Prickett (Susan); step daughter, Val Watts (Rich); step son, Barry Prickett (Elisheva); 6 grandchildren; brother-in-law, Ron Fox; sister-in-law, Jeanette Boylls; several nieces and nephews; and best friend, Carol Hahn. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 12:30 p.m. at Old North United Methodist Church, 4201 Stringtown Rd., officiated by Rev. Dan Ashton, Rev. Dr. Stephanie Weiner, and Rev. Don Bernhardt. Family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday prior to the service at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Rd.
