James Robert Downey

James “Jim” Robert Downey, 90, of Evansville, IN, passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at The Heritage Center, surrounded by his family.
James was born in Evansville, IN and attended Memorial High School. He retired from American National Can (Silgan), (Bernardin) in 1992 after 42 years of service. In his early years, Jim liked to go camping with his family and friends and go snagging for catfish below the dam at KY Lake.
Jim liked to play clabber, work puzzles and watch Cardinals baseball. He was known as the "Puzzle Man" at Holiday Village. He was baptized and became a member of St. James West United Methodist Church in 1946, and was a member of the Alpha Domus Sunday School class. Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He married Betty June (Peckenpaugh) and they were married for 61 years before her death.
Jim is survived by his son, Jeffrey (Vicki) Downey of Wadesville; daughter, Brenda (David) Miller of Evansville; grandchildren, Matthew (Kristy) Downey, Amber (Joshua) Lord and Craig (Tiffany) Miller; eleven great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Jerry Peckenpaugh of Evansville, and Larry (Carol) Peckenpaugh of Posey Co.; sister-in-law, Janice Peckenpaugh of Evansville; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held 11:00 AM Saturday, August 12, 2017, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Rev. Gene Backes, with entombment at Alexander Memorial Park. Friends visited Friday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Saturday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
