Obituary of Howard "Bud" Raleigh
Howard “Bud” Raleigh, 82, passed away, Sunday, July 21, 2013 at VNA Charlier Hospice in Evansville, IN. He was born December 29, 1930 in Greenville, KY to Nellie & Yewell Raleigh. He retired from Meisler and had worked at Arkla; Hennis and Centralia Freightlines. He was a life member of River Bend Association, VFW Post 1114 and AM Vets. He had served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Bud loved his grandchildren dearly and they loved him in return. He was very special to them. He loved to play clabber and has played in many clabber leagues throughout the years. Bud and his partner were city champs one year. Bud loved NASCAR and especially Jeff Gordon. He raced cars in the late 50’s and early 60’s at Haubstadt Speedway and St. Joe Speedway. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting and has a buck in the record book. He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Dorothy Raleigh; daughter, Jolene Raleigh; brother, David Raleigh and also parents, Nellie & Yewell Raleigh. Bud is survived by daughter, Rhonda Turner; son-in-law, Daniel Turner; brothers, Joseph Raleigh, Daniel Raleigh; sisters, Helen Calvert, Dorothy Wittmann, Frances Clark, Lana Arney, Jean Nenneker; sisters-in-law, Vickie Raleigh Cheryl Raleigh; brothers-in-law, Ronald Arney, Fred Nenneker, Ray Clark; grandchildren, Jason Turner (Gena), Alicia Brocker (Robert), Amanda Kealoha (Josh), Julian Raleigh; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews of whom he loved dearly. Services will be 1:00PM Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Alexander West Chapel officiated by Rev. Karl Crowe with burial in Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit Wednesday, July 24, 2013 from 2:00PM until 8:00PM and Thursday from noon until service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to VNA Plus Charlier Hospice Center, 610 E. Walnut St., Evansville, IN 47713 or Vanderburgh County Humane Society, 400 Millner Industrial Dr., Evansville, IN 47710.
