Obituary of Geneva Matilda Johnson
Geneva Matilda Johnson, 100, of Evansville, IN passed away Saturday, September 21, 2024. She was born in Evansville on September 21, 1924 to the late Edward Henry and Barbara Marie (Schroeder) Winternheimer. Geneva graduated from Reitz High School, class of 1942. She was proud to have helped in the efforts of WWII by working on Corsair planes at Briggs. Geneva was a long-time Zoar and St. Paul’s UCC member where she was a Sunday School teacher, choir member and deacon. She enjoyed helping the elderly at St. Paul’s through visitations. Geneva and her husband, Billie were avid campers and traveled all 48 contiguous states. Her hobbies included ceramics, flower gardening, bird watching and listening to country music. She enjoyed watching Nascar and raced and won several powder puff derbies in the 1950’s. Geneva’s grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren were the highlight of her life and she greatly enjoyed their visits. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Billie Johnson (2010); daughter, Charlotte Johnson Cline (2004); Dwayne L. Johnson (1996); and sister, Barbara Ann Williams (2021). Geneva is survived by sons, Billy G. Johnson (Helen) and Gary L. Johnson (Shannon); daughters, Christine F. Garrison (Jeff) and Connie S. Johnson; brother, Alan Winternheimer (Nancy); grandchildren, Charley Johnson (Loree), Michael Johnson (Susan), Jeremiah Johnson (Rachel), John Cline (Natalie), Brandi Timmer (Kevin), Patrick Johnson (Tasha), Jennifer Bullock (David), Matthew Johnson (Angela), Mark Johnson, Kelly Bobbitt (Brian), Angela Garrison and Amber Knapp (Joel); 28 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at St. Paul’s U.C.C. German Township, 8701 Big Cynthiana Rd, Evansville, IN 47720, officiated by Pastor Terry Farmer with burial in the church cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois St., Evansville, IN 47712, and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Church Cemetery Endowment Fund.
