Obituary of Robert Stanley Christensen
Robert Stanley Christensen, 100, of Reva, VA passed away on August 24, 2021 at the residence of his son Dwight Christensen, who has been his caregiver for the past 8 years. Robert was born April 26, 1921 to Hobart R. and Hazel Gertrude Christensen. Robert died peacefully after dinner and going to bed, and was able to say one last "Monga Tak" and "Das Veh Dahyna" before heading heavenward to be with all his family and friends who have been waiting a very long time for his return. Robert served his country in WWII in the U.S. Navy and was on Okinawa when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. He was a farmer, welder, and after retirement, he and his wife opened a Christmas Tree Farm. He was also an avid bicyclist who began this sport after the age of 65, and made many 100+ mile trips, accumulating over 25,000 miles and wearing out many bikes, up until the age of 85. He was also an expert on Civil War history; he loved to visit all the old battlefields and share amazing stories of the south's General Forrest and other fine southern war military leaders. Surviving Robert are his eight children; Joy Viar (Mike); Robert S. “Bo” Christensen, Jr., all of Reva, VA; Peggy Hellwig (Frank) of Florida; Brenda Christensen (Pete)Perkins of Louisa, VA,; Heidi Bodie (Paul) of Powhatan; Chris Christensen (Rett) of Illinois; Dwight Christensen and Chris Christensen, both of Reva, VA; ten grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and his brother Ellsworth Christensen of Tennessee. In addition to his parents, his wife of 62 years, Margaret Bartholow Christensen, passed away in 2009; and his brothers, Orville, Milo, Vern, and Dallas precede him in death. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 30, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Clore-English Funeral Home, 11190 James Monroe Highway, Culpeper, VA with a time of visitation one hour prior to service time.
