Janice "Jan" Smith

Janice “Jan” Smith, 74, died Sunday, October 23, 2022 at Forest Park Nursing Home of Richmond. Jan was born to Robert M. and Jeannie Rollins Johnson on March 24, 1948 in Lafayette Indiana. She graduated from Connersville Senior High School with the class of 1966. Jan furthered her education at Purdue University obtaining her Bachelor’s degree; then receiving her Master’s degree from Ball State. She taught for over thirty years at Alquina Elementary School. Jan was an exceptional teacher who loved seeing her students excel both in academics and outside of the classroom, Jan made sure each child she taught felt important. When she wasn’t teaching Jan loved traveling, camping, boating, and reading a good book. Jan was a dedicated mother who never missed her son’s sporting events. She will be missed by her family and friends. Jan is survived by her sons: Chad Smith and his wife, Angel; Trent Smith and Kyle Smith and his wife, Betsy; her grandchildren: Brooke Duvelius and her husband, Dillon; Lauren and Jackie Ross; Brice Smith; Maci Smith; Kaylee Baker; Morgan Baker; Madison Smith; and Emily Smith; her nephew: Brad Reynolds and his wife Christie; her Niece: Terri Whyte and her husband Mike; four great grandchildren; her mother: Jeanne Johnson; her brother: Randall “Randy” Johnson. In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by her husband: Chuck Smith. A funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., on Friday, October 28, 2022 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with, David Pinter officiating. Friends may gather from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery.
