Margaret “Kathleen” Cates

Margaret “Kathleen” Katherlene Cates, 79, of College Station, passed away Friday, August 15, 2014.
Kathleen was born to Giddings Alexander Bell and Elsie Bernice Free Bell on November 2, 1934 in Bryan, Texas. She married the love of her life Billy Clayton Cates Sr. on June 2, 1950 in San Angelo, Texas. In 1963 they returned to Bryan to raise their four wonderful children. She worked various jobs until she found her calling at the Brazos County Adult Probation office, where she worked until retirement in 2007. Kathleen had a love for her family, friends and playing bingo. She touched many lives, and will be greatly missed.
Kathleen is preceded in death by her husband; Billy Cates Sr., parents; one brother; three sisters, sons; Billy “Dusty” Cates Jr., Mike Cates, son in-laws; Allen Swoboda, Ted Carpenter, and grandchildren; Melissa Cates, and Michael Cates Jr.
She is survived by her daughters Kay Carpenter, and Patty Swoboda, daughter in-laws; Rose Cates, and Ellen Cates, nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Memorial Funeral Home in College Station. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 18, 2014 at Memorial Funeral Home in College Station, with burial at Peach Creek Cemetery in College Station. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made to Hospice Brazos Valley.
