Nancy Elizabeth Richards

Nancy E. Richards, 79, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2017, in her home at The Colonnades in Charlottesville, Va. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Bert and Betty Richards former Minister of the Berlin Congregational Church, Berlin, Conn. She attended Connecticut College in New London, Conn. and received her MA in Decorative Arts from the University of Delaware. Miss Richards was on the curatorial staff of Winterthur Museum in Wilmington, Del. for many years before accepting a grant to work at the historic property of Cliveden in Philadelphia. She ended her career as a curator at Tryon Palace in New Bern, N.C. After retiring, she volunteered at the New Bern Historical Society. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in New Bern and Church of Our Savior in Charlottesville. Her favorite activities included all forms of music, reading, traveling, needlepoint, and old movies. She would want to thank the staff of the Colonnades, her caregivers from Home Instead, and the health professionals who supervised her care in Charlottesville. She is survived by her sister, Susan Allen and and husband, Bob; her nephews, Rob Allen, Ken Allen (Erin), and Steve Allen (Nicole), and four great nephews. A memorial service will be held at Church of Our Savior, 1165 Rio Road E, Charlottesville VA 22901, on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Piedmont or Alzheimer's Association.
