Joan native to Burlington, New Jersey was born on February 22, 1940 to the late Edgar S. Nugent, Jr. and Mary Simonka Nugent.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Dewson.
Joan is survived by her loving daughters; Deborah Yost (preceded in death by Kenny Yost), Tamarah Cheek (Doug Cheek), Laura Purvis (Lawrence “Buddy” Purvis), and Donna Deitsch (David Deitsch). Joan wore many hats, figuratively of course; we all know “don’t touch my hair!” Joan was a sister, a mother, a friend, and a Mommom to her grandchildren as well as her great-grandchildren. Joan was a devout member of City Church for 34 years. Joan is a cherished individual known for her kind, loving, caring, and humorous personality. Loving to travel and learn, Joan was never bored. She moved to the rhythm of God’s drum and added her own beat.
Please join us as we find comfort in the memories and everlasting love of Joan. Family and friends are invited to attend a Life Celebration Service held at City Church in Charlottesville, VA at October 9th at 7:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, we ask you to consider making a memorial donation in Joan’s honor to City Church Building Fund and/or Hospice of Piedmont.
