Carl Ray Pittman

Carl Ray Pittman, 81, of Carmel, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2019. Carl was born in Paoli, Indiana to Elmer Lee Pittman and Ida Florence Wininger on March 30, 1937. He married Shirley Kay Edwards on October 2, 1959 in Paoli. Carl was an electronics design engineer, starting his career with Magnavox in Fort Wayne, IN, followed by over 20 years with Arvin Industries in Columbus IN, where he logged many miles flying to Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan. He was awarded various patents for his product designs while at Arvin. Later he consulted on new product development and certification for medical devices and consumer products for numerous companies. Carl was a member of North Christian Church in Columbus for many years. More recently he was a member of Allisonville Christian Church. Carl is preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Ida Pittman, brothers Leon, Roy, Woody, and Donald, sisters Kathyleen Lawson, Louise Walls, and Shirley Ann Pittman. Carl is survived by his wife Shirley Pittman, daughter Debbie Strong and husband John Strong, grandchildren Stephen Strong and wife Audrey Harper Strong, and Samantha Strong. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to Suzanne, Madeline, Laurie, and Karen for all of their care and devotion. A Celebration of Life service will take place at a later date. A Celebration of Life for Carl will take place Saturday, April 27 from 2-4pm at 8740 Bay Tree Court, Indianapolis 46236. (Open house format so please stop by at your convenience.) As a student and throughout life, Carl had an interest in all kinds of communications and media. While at Paoli High School he ran the presses to print the school newspaper, The Paolite, while also working for The Paoli News-Republican.
