IN THE CARE OF
Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home
Thomas Showers Teter, age 72, of Bloomington, passed away from cancer on Sunday afternoon at the IU Health; Bloomington Hospice House. Born December 21, 1942 in Bloomington, he was the son of William S. and Lydia (Hall) Teter; great-grandson of William N. Showers and grandson of Sanford and Nellie Teter. Tom was part of the Showers Brothers Furniture heritage. His grandmother, Nellie Showers Teter, was the first woman on the Board of Trustees of Indiana University.
Tom graduated from University High School, attended Indiana University and graduated from Purdue University. He received his Masters in Entomology from North Dakota State University. He taught high school science in Sheridan, Wyoming before returning to Bloomington.
It was easy to be an eager student of Tom as he shared his vast knowledge and love of plants, animals, bugs, birds, earth, sky and all of nature’s wonders. His was a contagious joy. Tom also tenderly and lovingly cared for his vast collection of orchids, a tradition initiated by his father.
Tom will be sorely missed by his loving wife, Mary “Molly” Morgan; his immediate family including his sons, Shane S. Teter of Rhinelander, WI and Creighton H. Teter, of Minocqua, WI; his granddaughters, Liana and Brynn Teter and his sister, Nancy Teter Smith of Bloomington. His loss will also be mourned by the Anselmi family of Pepperell, MA, the Washburn family of Boston, MA, the Hayslip family of Rochester, NY; his many friends in Wyoming, Connecticut and Bloomington and by one lonely, grey fox- Greta.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at a later date.
