Hugh E. Bothwell Sr.

Hugh E. (Boob) Bothwell, Sr., 97, of Indianapolis, went to be with the Lord on November 23, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was born August 24, 1920, in Beech Grove to the late Harry and Ada Mae (Buis) Bothwell. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Virginia (Williams) Bothwell; son, Robert Amick; daughter, Debra Tripp; grandson, Mark Amick; and sisters, Luetta Shutt and Ruth Carr. Hugh graduated from Beech Grove High School in 1939. He retired from Chrysler in 1980, having worked in many positions, was a member of Fraternal Order of the Eagles Beech Grove 4167, and was an avid sports fan that loved the Indiana Hoosiers basketball team. Many in the community will remember Hugh as a well-dressed man, as he could always be found in a good looking suit and colorful cap with matching pocket square. Many people would say, “There goes the “best dressed man” in Beech Grove. His children will remember him as a caring and devoted father who taught them by example to love their family, help others, and treat everyone with respect. Hugh is survived by his children, Charles Amick (Sharon), Hugh E. Bothwell, Jr. (Susan), Joyce Grider, and Tom Bothwell (Brenda); son-in-law, Guy Tripp; 23 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; niece, Linda Duke; and a great niece and nephew among many other extended family members and friends. Memorial visitation will be 10:00 am to 1:00 pm Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Little and Sons Funeral Home, 1301 Main St., Beech Grove, Indiana 46107 with a time for sharing memories at the conclusion. He will be laid to rest at New Crown Cemetery privately at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to: American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
