Obituary of Joan Gwendolyn Frith
Joan Gwendolyn Allen Frith passed in the early morning of June 3rd, 2024 at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care at the age of 86. She is survived by her devoted husband and soulmate of 70 years Jesse Frith of Oak Level, her son Jayson Frith of Oak Level with his wife Rhonda, and daughter, Joella Frith of Jacksonville, Florida. She leaves behind three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Richelle Wright of Jacksonville, Florida and her two children Lilah and Declan; Josh Frith of Boones Mill with his wife Kayla and their son Jaiden; Justin Frith of Martinsville with his wife Jane. She is also survived by her brother, Woodman Allen Jr. of Collinsville with his wife Mary. She is preceded in death by her parents Woodman “Ted” and Mary Lou Allen. Aside from being the heart of the Frith Family, Joan had many reputable achievements in her lifetime. After retiring from Smurfit-Stone Container Joan pursued her passion for genealogy and history as the Regent for Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She served as a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy and United Colonial Dames. Originally from Fieldale, she actively contributed to the Fieldale Heritage Center. As a pillar of the Oak Level Community, she was elected as the first president of the Oak Level Ladies Auxiliary, as well as a member of Oak Level Baptist Church. Because of her kind and gentle nature, she was asked to teach one of the children’s Sunday school classes, but it was the position of Youth Choir Director that allowed her to express her God-given talent for singing. Joan was an exceptional woman, whose graceful spirit will not be soon forgotten. The lives she touched have forever been imprinted with tenderness and compassion. The family hopes you will join them in the remembrance of her life. A visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Friday, June 7, 2024 at Oak Level Baptist Church. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 pm. Collins Funeral Home is serving the family. On line condolences may be made at www.collinsmckeestonebassett.com
