Obituary of James Lewis Fox
James Lewis Fox, of 67 Dove Lane, Stanleytown, died January 9, 2012, at Blue Ridge Rehabilitation Center in Martinsville. Born October 4, 1925, in Winston-Salem, NC, he was a son of the late Orn D. Fox and Essie Caudle Fox. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Fox Shelton and a brother, William O. (Bill) Fox. Surviving is his wife of 59 ½ years Mable H. Fox of the home, a sister, Evelyn Setliff of Collinsville, his step-son, Wayne Eanes and wife Shirley of Fieldale, his step-granddaughter, Suzanne Ponder of Charleston, SC, and several nieces and nephews. Lewis finished high school in Fieldale in 1943, and entered the Navy Air Corps as a flight engineer December 13, 1943. He served during World War II in the Aleutian Islands and was discharged in 1947. He was a 1951 graduate of VPI where he received a fellowship to continue work toward a Masters degree the following year. Lewis went to work for the Aluminum Company of America in July, 1953, retiring in 1988 with 35 years of service. While with ALCOA, he was assigned to several foreign countries to assist in the startup of new plants. He was assigned to Geelong, Australia, Suriname, Brazil and Vera Cruz, Mexico. In the U.S. he worked in Maryville, TN, Evansville, IN, Wenatchee, WA, and Albemarle, NC. While in Albemarle he served as a Boy Scout troop leader, was on the board of the Boys Club and delivered Meals on Wheels for the Baptist church. He moved to Stanleytown in 2002 and was a member of Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church, where his funeral service will be held Wednesday, at 11 A.M., with the Rev. Jim Hewitt officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett, and at other times at the home.
