Betty Susan Hatcher Gilbert
October 28, 1941 – January 16, 2017

Betty Susan Hatcher Gilbert, 75 years old, of Fieldale, died Monday, January 16, 2017 at Blue Ridge Nursing Center, Stuart VA. She was born in Woolwine, VA on October 28, 1941 to the late Charlie Jefferson Hatcher and Venie Nora Hall Hatcher.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry “J.W.” William Gilbert; five sisters, Bertha Hylton, Minnie Boyd Foley, Ada Hatcher Wade, Annie Ruth Hatcher, and Mae Turner; and two brothers, Daniel Hatcher and Falus Hatcher.
Betty was a member of the Fieldale Baptist Church and worked for Fieldcrest Mills, Henry County Public Schools and Stanley town Nursing Home.
She leaves behind her loving children; two daughters, Charlene Gilbert Smith and son-in- law Jay Smith both of Fieldale and Sharon Paige Gilbert of Fieldale; one son, James “Jay” William Gilbert of Fieldale; six grandchildren, Timothy Itaska Bryant, Susan Paige Gilbert Fulcher and spouse Hope of Fieldale, Brittany Jessica Smith of Radford, Whittney Renae Reid and husband Kevin of Roanoke, Cierra Nicole Gilbert, and Jacob William Gilbert; one great- grandchild, Arabella Paige Gilbert; and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 18 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home and other times at the home. A funeral service will be held on Thursday January 19th at 1:00 p.m. in Collins Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Carl Keith officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park.
